Job Description

Position Summary

The Controls Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and documenting electrical and control systems onsite. This role involves hands-on work with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and electrical components, as well as mentoring junior technicians and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve control-level issues using Allen Bradley PLCs (CompactLogix, ControlLogix) and PanelView HMIs.
  • Develop and implement ladder logic changes using Rockwell RSLogix IDEs (RSLogix5000 preferred).
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems ranging from 24VDC to 480VAC.
  • Perform root cause analysis and document incidents and system changes.
  • Monitor system operations using SCADA and other diagnostic tools.
  • Maintain and update control system documentation and configurations.
  • Mentor and guide technicians, providing feedback to enhance performance.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and perform other maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and training requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and PanelView HMI troubleshooting.
  • At least 1 year of experience in electrical troubleshooting and reading schematics.
  • Proficiency with control components such as relays, sensors, motor starters, solenoids, servo drives, and frequency inverters.
  • Familiarity with non-AB control systems (e.g., Mitsubishi, Omron, Siemens) is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and understanding of KPIs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious.
