JOB TITLE: Compliance Director (Product)

ROLE OVERVIEW

• Requires extensive expertise in applicable US laws, government regulations, and product safety requirements to create and implement company procedures that drive business outcome and ensure product compliance in every State that the company will be active in.
• Maintains company compliance with, among others, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
• Direct and oversee internal associates and third parties managing compliance management system, regulatory compliance, regulatory reporting, processes to ensure compliance with applicable laws and government regulations.
• Monitor updates and direct changes to critical business procedures to implement and adhere to new laws, government regulations and product safety regulations.
• Select, onboard, manage the development and oversee the deployment of programs with third-party providers.
• Direct and oversee the development and implementation of strategic projects to ensure compliance, and cost reduction opportunities in achieving product compliance.
• Develop relationships with Buying to drive business outcome and improve business processes.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and assist in compliance-related assessments and reviews to monitor the effectiveness of the internal control program and adherence.
• Set-up product safety compliance management system for the US operations. The system comprises of the product safety & testing requirements, other regulatory requirements, compliance verification procedures and processes as well as record keeping for the business for non-food goods, food and consumables (including Cosmetics, Detergents, Medical Devices, and Chemical products).
• Builds and maintains the compliance management system with the support of partnerships in the domain of product safety regulations, product testing and record keeping. The system will include on-going regulatory changes, and were necessary, ongoing product standard testing changes.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

• Degree educated, ideally within Engineering, Life science, Chemistry or Law
• 10+ years of regulatory compliance experience within a retail and/or manufacturer environment across a range of consumer products (hard goods) including electrical products, tools, furniture as well as cosmetics, detergents or medical devices
• Awareness in the field of product safety & legislation, risk analysis and prevention
• Experienced working in a multi-national company within an international team
• Experienced communicating regulatory and compliance requirements to non-technical stakeholders
• Advanced understanding of United States safety and compliance requirements for federally regulated products (CPSC, FDA, etc.)
• Experienced in professional environments with exchanges with authorities and authority inspectors.
• Experienced in specifying requirements for sourced products, working with product technologists and buying to support with clear specification packs, is an advantage.
